FishAbility Event at Mornington Jetty: A Cold Day with Big Rewards
On Friday, 14th June, Fishcare Victoria hosted a FishAbility event at the picturesque Mornington Jetty. Despite the biting cold, the day turned out to be a memorable and rewarding experience for all involved.
Initially, the fishing was slow, and the chill in the air made the conditions challenging. However, our participants demonstrated remarkable perseverance. With a tide change and a generous application of burley pellets, the situation took a positive turn, and our luck improved significantly.
The first exciting catch of the day was a lovely 37cm pinky Snapper. This was soon followed by an impressive 60cm, 2.5kg Snapper, which brought a burst of energy and excitement to the group. Not long after, a 33cm Flathead was added to the tally. The successful catches meant that three of our participants went home with fresh fish, and one of them had enough to feed all his housemates.
The event highlighted the importance of patience, skill, and community spirit in fishing. Our FishAbility sessions are designed to provide inclusive and educational fishing experiences, and this day at Mornington Jetty was a perfect example of the joy and satisfaction that fishing can bring.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who braved the cold and joined us. Your enthusiasm and perseverance made the day a great success. At Fishcare Victoria, we believe that fishing is more than just a sport; it’s a way to connect with nature, learn valuable skills, and build a supportive community.
If you are interested in joining our FishAbility sessions or becoming a volunteer, we would love to hear from you.
