Geelong Volunteers Overcome Challenges in a Rewarding FishAbility Session with Better2Gether
Last Friday, Fishcare Victoria’s Geelong volunteers led a truly memorable FishAbility session, demonstrating that sometimes, the greatest challenges come from unexpected quarters—not just from the fishing itself! The session, hosted with participants from Better2Gether, was not only about casting lines but also about overcoming hurdles and enjoying every moment of the experience.
Volunteers Steve, Greg, and Nita guided the participants through a day filled with both excitement and a few slippery surprises. The group managed to catch a couple of carp and narrowly missed a few more, but the real highlight came when they reeled in an eel—a feat that proved to be just the beginning of the adventure. The most challenging (and humorous) part of the day? Trying to capture a photo with the lively eel, which added plenty of laughs to the session.
FishAbility sessions are designed to make fishing accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their abilities. This event exemplified the spirit of Fishcare Victoria: fostering inclusion, patience, and persistence, all essential qualities for both fishing and life.
The session was a great success, thanks to the dedication of our Geelong volunteers and the enthusiastic participation of everyone from Better2Gether. Moments like these—where challenges turn into cherished memories—are what Fishcare Victoria strives for.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Steve, Greg, and Nita for their outstanding efforts and to the participants who embraced the day with such great spirits. Great job, team! Here’s to many more sessions where we continue to learn, laugh, and fish together.
