South West Fishcare Update

South West Fishcare Update

With an improvement in the weather comes an increase in Fishcare activities. And things are warming up.  Recently we had volunteers travel to Cobden lake to hold a fishing session with a local indigenous community. The fishing was slow but participants enjoyed themselves. On ‘Gone Fishing Day’ Fishcare South West teamed up with Allansford and District Angling Club to hold a ‘Come and Try Fishing’ session on the Hopkins River at Jubilee Park. The day went well with participants learning about sustainable fishing, catching a few Black bream and families interested in joining the angling club to continue their fishing. A big thank you to the Victorian State Government for supporting this event. This month we look forward to heading down to the Curdies River at Boggey Creek to go fishing with students from Timboon Primary School. This follows an incursion completed by Jacinta our Port Phillip facilitator. This summer our ‘Come and Try Fishing’ summer series with be undertaken across four different sites in the Warrnambool area and will hopefully travel to Narrawong on the Surrey River and Nelson on the Glenelg River.
Remember to look after our waterways. See you around the water.
