Volunteer Opportunity: Become the Secretary of Fishcare Victoria
Fishcare Victoria has been inspiring responsible and sustainable fishing since 1995. As a volunteer-based not-for-profit organisation, we are dedicated to teaching the community about protecting our waterways, fish habitats, and the future of recreational fishing.
Our passionate volunteers deliver educational programs in schools, support community groups and the disability sector, and attend family fishing events across Victoria. We also work closely with the Victorian Fisheries Authority and partner with other environmental organisations to strengthen community engagement and conservation outcomes.
To continue our important work, we are seeking a volunteer Secretary to join our Management Committee. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the governance of a long-standing and respected community organisation.
What You’ll Do
As Secretary, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of our Committee. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Preparing meeting agendas in consultation with the President and staff
- Taking accurate minutes of meetings and ensuring timely distribution
- Managing correspondence and maintaining official records
- Supporting compliance and reporting obligations
- Helping the Committee stay organised and focused on achieving Fishcare’s goals
Skills and Qualities
We are looking for someone who:
- Has good organisational and communication skills
- Is confident with note-taking, agendas, and record-keeping
- Can use basic computer programs with ease
- Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team
- Understands not-for-profit governance (or is willing to learn)
What’s Involved
- Quarterly Committee meetings held in Melton or online
- Preparing and sharing agendas, minutes, and correspondence
- Supporting the governance and growth of a community organisation that makes a real difference across Victoria
