Welcome Eli Craig – Our New Geelong and Ballarat Facilitator 🎣

Fishcare Victoria is delighted to welcome Eli Craig to the team as our new Geelong and Ballarat Facilitator.

Eli brings a unique mix of environmental science expertise, hands-on wildlife experience, and community engagement skills to the role. With two degrees in Zoology and Wildlife and Conservation Biology from Deakin University, Eli has developed a strong foundation in ecology, species management, and scientific communication — all vital for inspiring responsible fishing and environmental stewardship across our regions.

Over the past five years, Eli has been an active volunteer with the Australian Dingo Foundation, contributing to animal husbandry, education, and fundraising programs. They lead the Foundation’s school education initiative, Dingo Whiskers, delivering engaging biodiversity programs to more than 40 schools and 250 visitors each year. Their leadership and communication skills were recognised through a promotion to Education Coordinator and Volunteer Supervisor, where they supported a team of volunteers and helped expand the organisation’s community outreach.

Eli’s professional background also includes roles in visitor engagement and community coordination — from welcoming thousands of guests as a Visitor Services Officer at Werribee Open Range Zoo to facilitating new youth and inclusion programs at Bridge Darebin. Their ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds has been strengthened through training in Indigenous and disability inclusion, communications, and grant writing, as well as experience managing social media and events that reached thousands across Victoria.

A lifelong love of the water has also shaped Eli’s journey. Raised in a boating and fishing family, they developed a deep respect for marine and freshwater environments early on. One of their most formative experiences was a 12-month sailing adventure around the world, which strengthened their appreciation for diverse cultures, ecosystems, and the need to protect them.

Through Fishcare Victoria, Eli is eager to help others discover that same sense of connection — combining their scientific background, creative communication style, and genuine passion for nature to promote sustainable fishing and healthy waterways across the Geelong and Ballarat regions.

Please join us in welcoming Eli to the Fishcare Victoria team — we’re thrilled to have their energy, knowledge and community spirit on board! 🌿🐟
