Come Try Fishing!

Fishcare Melbourne, Mornington and Westernport and the Reclink Team are back into our monthly ‘Come and Try Fishing program!’ Kicking off at the Mornington Pier, offering plenty of space for social distancing and scenic views. After a long break from the water, it has been a welcomed relief getting back into fishing as a group and enjoying each other’s company.

Participants are encouraged to practice responsible sustainable fishing practices and closely refer to the Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide throughout clinics to identify species size and bag limits. In addition, Fishcare Victoria staff and trained volunteers are on hand to assist with everyone’s fishing needs including preparation of rods, bait and tackle, safe fish handling, hook removal and best environmental practice. During School Holidays Fishcare run free ‘Come and Try Fishing’ events for anyone interested in learning the basics of recreational fishing. We also team up with Parks Victoria to deliver Junior Ranger fishing programs for kids and families. These events can be found advertised on our Facebook pages and Eventbrite under Fishcare Victoria.

Our volunteer working group are doing a fantastic job in supporting the Fishcare staff to deliver the program in line with a Covid Safe plan to keep participants and members of the public safe and well during this time. We would like to welcome those new volunteers who have joined us this month and encourage anyone interested in getting involved to reach out!
