We fish we care

Our Achievements since July 1, 2023

One of the program’s key achievements lies in our reach within the community. Through 40 school sessions, 26 all-ability events, 25 School Holiday events and an impressive 79 community events, Fishcare Victoria has successfully engaged a diverse range of participants this financial year (as at 14/11/23).

From young students eager to learn about responsible fishing to individuals of all abilities seeking inclusive fishing experiences, the program has touched the lives of 3166 enthusiastic participants.

The backbone of Fishcare Victoria’s success lies in the dedication and passion of its volunteers. These individuals have generously contributed 711 hours of their time, tirelessly working towards the program’s mission of responsible recreational fishing. Their efforts have not only facilitated the smooth execution of events but have also fostered a sense of community and shared responsibility among participants.

The Fishcare Program is not only about teaching responsible fishing practices, it’s also about instilling a sense of duty towards caring for our aquatic environments. Through a combination of education and hands-on experiences, participants gain an understanding of the delicate balance within these ecosystems. By emphasizing catch limits, species protection and the importance of maintaining healthy fish populations, the program actively contributes to the long-term sustainability of Victoria’s aquatic resources.

The Fishcare program is a shining example of the positive impact that community-driven initiatives can have on our environment. Through its dedication to education, inclusivity and sustainability, the program has reached participants and volunteers across the state, leaving an indelible mark on our aquatic resources. As we move forward, it is with great anticipation that we await the program’s future achievements and the enduring legacy it will leave for the generations that follow
