Summer by the Sea – South West
What a ‘Come and Try Fishing’ Summer Series we have had in South West Victoria. All events were fully booked out, with some families attending every event. We had locals, tourists, first time anglers, participants young and old. We fished the Hopkins River, Merri River and Breakwater in Warrnambool and for the first time we ventured to Narrawong to fish the Surrey River.
We teamed up with the Glenelg Hopkins CMA and Nature Glenelg Trust on a couple of the sessions to help spread the word on the great job they do in the region. Thank you to everyone that participated and helped out. Coming up in the Easter School Holidays we will be teaming up with the Glenelg Hopkins CMA to run a day on the Merri River at Platypus Park in Warrnambool.
The day will be filled with fishing fun and a chance to explore this part of the Merri a little closer. This event is following on from the great work that has been completed along this stretch of the Merri with weed control, revegetation and additions of instream habitat.
Keep a look out for more information coming soon. Our side project here in the South West ‘The Plastic Free Alliance’ has found a home for our plastic litter artwork ‘Modern Midden’ and will soon be installed at a popular area in Warrnambool along the Hopkins River named the Blue Hole. We have also been granted approval to have a mural painted on a building at the Blue Hole that will further highlight the need to take action to stop plastic litter entering our waterways.
There’s plenty of fishing here in the South West so why not come down and drop a line in one of our fantastic waterways while the weather is still good.
