Tooradin Foreshore Family Fishing Day
Despite a grim weather forecast and a wet, windy and rainy morning, the clouds parted and the community got behind the Tooradin Angling Club family fishing event on the 28th of May. The event was celebrating the fantastic new fishing platforms in Tooradin which a number of community groups worked together in applying for funding to see the project come to life. The family fishing day saw over 40 keen junior anglers and their families try their hand at fishing. A free BBQ was provided, along with 20 free rod and reel combos for some lucky children. There were a number of mullet and toadies caught and released and the excitement of childrens first catches was in the air. Fishcare Victoria State Coordinator Sarah Van Stokrom was proud to represent Fishcare at such a fantastic event, providing fishing equipment, advice and bait to junior anglers to come and try fishing. Fishcare was also able to provide information on species ID, bag and size limits and hatched a few ideas with other community groups in regards to future recreational fishing projects in the Tooradin area. We look forward to exciting times ahead and building partnerships to encourage more families and children to experience fishing and connect with their local environments and communities.
