Warracknabeal Angling Club Event Success!
The Warracknabeal Angling Club were recipients of a Yarriambiack Shire Council Share Grant, which enabled them to purchase fishing equipment for 40 individuals. This grant was awarded to help with community engagement enabling the club to host come and try sessions and for people to participate in monthly competitions that may not have their own fishing equipment.
The club wasted no time getting the new rods wet. Six Angling Club members registered as Fishcare Victoria Volunteers and then delivered the learn how to fish program in both Warracknabeal (on the Yarriambiack Creek Weir Pool) and also Lake Lascelles in Hopetoun as part of the schools’ end of school activity programs.
The programs ran smoothly and were well attended and fortunately some fish were caught too.
Hopetoun students headed to Lake Lascelles on Thursday 12th of December and had a few nibbles, while Warracknabeal Primary School had a successful afternoon at Lake Lascelles on December 13th. Year 6 student Fionn McLean caught the first fish of the day – a 5cm Redfin. A Magnificent 51cm Eel Tail Catfish was caught by Year 6 student Eli, while an impressive 51.5cm Yellow belly was caught by Warracknabeal Primary School Principal Ben Tait
A group of 23 Year 5 students also tried their luck at the Warracknabeal Weir Pool on Friday but unfortunately failed to catch a fish. Many of the participants were simply happy casting sinkers and refining their angling techniques.
Fishcare Victoria and the Warracknabeal Angling Club are looking forward to working together to deliver more events in the region in 2020 and beyond!
