Hooked on Lakes Entrance 2024: A Day to Remember
In the heart of Lakes Entrance, the Fishcare community witnessed another landmark event with the 2024 edition of Hooked on Lakes Entrance. Despite the challenging hot and blustery conditions, the spirit of fishing brought together over 100 enthusiastic kids, accompanied by their parents, making the event an unforgettable success. The popular Come & Try Fishing Clinics were the day’s highlight, offering a perfect blend of learning, excitement, and hands-on fishing experience.
The waters of Lakes Entrance did not disappoint, rewarding participants with an impressive catch. The day was filled with the joy of reeling in small pinky Snapper, Mullet, and Australian Salmon. However, the Silver Trevally stole the show, living up to their reputation as feisty fighters. The event was made even more memorable by a young angler’s skillful catch of a Silver Trevally, which not only earned him accolades but also a delicious dinner for his family.
The success of such a massive day could not have been possible without the support of our dedicated volunteers. Special thanks to our Fishcare locals Dearne and Jason, Michael and Trevor from the Gippsland Lakes Fishing Club and the ever-supportive Alan and Deb from Mornington. Their commitment and generosity played a pivotal role in the smooth execution of the event.
Our heartfelt appreciation extends to the local Fisheries Officers, Matt and Paul, and the courageous Lifesavers from Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance. Their presence ensured safety and compliance, adding an extra layer of reassurance for all attendees. The VFA Events team also deserves a special mention for their exceptional organisation and support, contributing significantly to the event’s success.
Among the many stars of the day, Deb Girling shone the brightest, once again proving her mettle as an outstanding angler. Her exceptional skills and passion for fishing were evident, as she comfortably outperformed all others, capturing not just the most fish but also the hearts of everyone present. The photos from the event speak volumes of her accomplishments, capturing the essence of joy and triumph.
As we reflect on Hooked on Lakes Entrance 2024, it’s clear that such events are more than just about fishing. They are about community, learning, and creating lasting memories. Our sincere thanks to all the volunteers, participants, and supporters who made this day possible. We look forward to many more successful events, where we can come together to celebrate our love for fishing and the great outdoors.
