Twin Rivers Bream Classic in East Gippsland

Fishcare EG has supported the Twin Rivers Bream Classic for over ten years with the Fishcare volunteers conducting Catch and Release stations on the individual rivers to give sustainable anglers competing in the competition, the opportunity to bring their fish to the stations to be weighed, the weight recorded and then released back into the river.

After some windy, wild weather during the week prior to the event , the wind dropped , the sun came out and conditions were perfect for a great weekends fishing. This year, Fishcare EG for the first time set up a Catch and Release station on the Mitchell River along with a second station on
the Nicholson River.

Over the weekend it was great to see so many big fish over the kilo mark brought into the two stations to be weighed and released. On the Sunday at the Nicholson Catch and Release station, a bream weighing in 1.740 Kilos was brought in and released. A big fish weighing in at that weight may be well over the 30 year mark!! It’s great to see responsible anglers enjoy releasing them to live another day.

As well as individual weights, the Catch and release stations weighed in some team combination weights with total weights up to 6 kilos this year.
With a Junior section in the competition, Fishcare EG saw many future sustainable anglers in the making with many young anglers bringing their fish to be weighed, recorded and released back into the river.
